Camping Chairs for Kids and Toddlers
Toddlers love doing every thing that adults are doing, so if you’re relaxing in your chair by the campfire, you need to set up your kid’s camp chair right next to yours.
We pack a standard camp chair for Tiny Critter every time we go camping. Here are the best kids camping chairs that we love:
Coleman Kids Quad Chair
This basic toddler camp chair has everything you need.
This kids camping chair is nice and low to the ground so it’s a perfect height for toddlers and preschoolers to get in and out of.
Our son uses his Coleman kids quad chair on camping trips with Grandma and Grandpa and he LOVES it. These kids camping chairs look just like the adult version, so your kids can continue to copy your every move, right?
It folds down and has a nice carry bag. This chair even has a drink holder that works well for water bottles! Your kids will love the firefly in the corner that glows in the dark. These are a super cute chair!
Pros: Low to the ground, great for little kids. Cup holder, logo glows in the dark! Comes with a carry bag.

Chair weight: 3.5 pounds (1.6kg)
Strong Back Heavy Duty Kid’s Camping Chair
This kid sized camping chair is awesomely sturdy and heavy duty.
It’ll work for any size child, or for most adults who want a lower seat. This chair has awesome lumbar support, a pocket in the back, and 2 cup holders, or 1 cup holder and one headlamp holder.
Your kid can use one cupholder for a water bottle and the other for snacks! It’s low to the ground and has a wide base for stability. The nice easy to carry bag it folds into has 2 straps so your can wear it like a backpack.
Pros: Amazing lumbar support, low seat. Cup holder. Steel frame holds 200 pounds. Bag with carrying straps.

Folding Canopy Camping Chair
If you’re looking for a sweet kids camping chair that’s got an awesome shaded umbrella, this is the one.
It folds down nice into a carrying bag, has a cup holder and the quad chair has a safety locking mechanism to hold the chair open while your child is sitting.
The umbrella is adjustable, so you can raise, lower and tilt it to block the sun from your child’s eyes. Who knows, after you get it adjusted, maybe your little one will even nap in it!
Pros: Umbrella, cup holder, and a carry bag.
Cons: Umbrella might blow away.
Seat height: 11″ (28 cm)

Pacific Play Tents Kids Camp Chair
This is the essential standard camping chair for kids.
It’s the cheapest on the list and does everything you need it to do. It’s a sturdy camping chair, and it has a nice carrying bag. The other chairs have nice added features, but for a kids camp chair you honestly don’t need a lot of frills.
If you’re going camping you’ll have to expect that things will come home with dirt and who knows what on them. The main thing I’m looking for a chair to do is give my kid a place to roast marshmallows from, and this little chair is perfect for that.
Pros: Price is awesome, chair is lightweight and a has carry bag.
Cons: No extra features like pockets, a cup holder or a sunshade, but otherwise it’s a great kid’s camping chair.

Chair weight: 5lbs (2.3 kg)
ALPS Mountaineering Tri-Leg Stool
This stool is perfect for a quick place for toddlers or preschoolers to sit when camping.
This camping stool comes with it’s own carry bag and a carry strap if you don’t want to mess with the bag. They pack up small for easy transport.
No arm rests means this lightweight camping chair folds up quickly and goes into the bag easily. The seat is made from tough 600D oxford cloth. Kids and smaller adults will love these little chairs.

Cons: No arm rests, no cupholder.

Alps Mountaineering Spirit Camp Chair
These light and low camping chairs are great for anyone in your family, not just for kids and toddlers.
They pack down really small and hardly weigh a thing.
We have these and have brought them everywhere, from backpacking in Northern MN, to 12 miles down into Havasupai Falls, AZ.
These kids camp chairs are awesome for littler kids because they’re so low to the ground. Keep that in mind for any adults who may use them though, you’re sitting really low and they’re not the easiest for adults to stand up from.
Pro: This is the lightest chair on the list, and is very low to the ground for small kids. Small carry bag.
Cons: Small base, may be more prone to tipping compared to other chairs. No cupholder.
Seat height: 13″ (33cm)
Weight limit: 250 lbs (113kg)
Chair weight: 4.4 lbs (2kg)
Camping Booster Seats
If you’re camping with a toddler, it’s great to have a booster seat in addition to toddler camping chairs. Picnic tables are too high for them and if you try to have them eat on the ground they’ll end up eating dirt instead of food. Give your toddler their own seat at the table with these great camping or travel booster seats.
Hiccapop Omniboost Travel Booster Seat
This cute little portable booster seat is a perfect camping booster seat for toddlers.
**Caution**
There is another portable booster chair that is very similar to this one, the summer infant pop n sit portable booster. The reviews of that chair currently are not great due to the harness system. Be sure to get the right brand.
It has a removable tray so your child can either have their own snacks or have a higher seat at the picnic table.
For safety this chair has a locking frame and straps to secure it to a picnic table bench or other sturdy chair. To keep your child secure, there is a 3 point harness that allows for one-handed unbuckling.
Like all of the other toddler chairs featured here, it packs down into a carry bag for portability. This chair also comes with wider feet for increased stability in grass or sand, which is an awesome feature for camping.
The seat fabric is also machine washable, so you don’t have to fret when you come back from camping with a chair that’s covered in sand-crusted marshmallow goo. We usually just use the hose on our chairs anyway.
Pros: 3 point harness, detachable dishwasher safe tray, locking frame, wide feet, seat back pocket, machine washable seat fabric, carry bag.
Cons: May be too wide to place on some picnic table benches, the legs are 12.5″ (31.8cm) square when set up.
Seat height: 5″ (12.7 cm)
Weight limit: 45 lbs (20.4 kg)
Chair weight: 4.2 lbs (1.9 kg)
Infant Camping Chairs
If you’re bringing a baby camping, you’re going to need a place for them to sit. You cannot hold a baby all day, as much as they’d like it if you did.
And as tempting as it is, using the backpack carrier as an infant seat isn’t recommended. We’ve looked at a lot of baby camping chairs and highchairs and found these to be the best baby camping chairs.
Baby Delight Go with Me Venture Chair
This is probably the coolest baby camping chair I’ve seen. It’s convertible from a chair for 3-6 month olds, a place to stand for 6-12 month olds and a perfect camping chair for toddlers.
All configurations work with the tray table and sunshade. If we had a second child I would purchase this chair immediately.
The standing configuration has netting so your little one’s legs don’t get bitten by bugs. The frame locks open so your kids can’t accidentally close it on themselves.
This chair also comes with an easy carry bag, which is super important for packing and keeping the chair clean in storage.
Reviews also mention that this chair is good for kids with disabilities or medical conditions, which is amazing. EVERYONE needs an opportunity to go camping and a good camp chair.
Pros: 5 point harness for infants, removable once kids get older. 3 configurations, can go from 3 months to 75 pounds. Very sturdy frame with 8 points of contact making it difficult to tip over.
Cons: Heavier chair, the tray tilts slightly towards the child, so things might roll off.
Seat height: Unknown.
Weight limit: 75 lbs (34 kg)
Chair weight: 7.5 lbs (3.4 kg)
Camping Highchairs
When you’re camping, often the only place to sit is at a picnic table, and those are way too big for toddlers and babies.
We always brought a camping high chair and it was so nice to not have to worry about my kid falling off the picnic table bench.
Summer Infant Pop ‘n Sit Portable Highchair
We owned one of these Summer infant pop n sit portable camping highchairs and it was awesome.
We took it everywhere because it is the best portable high chair. It makes breakfast, lunch and dinner so much easier.
We used it on more than one car camping trip, and brought it with on a few trips when we knew there wouldn’t be a highchair at our destination. Portable high chairs make a great baby shower gift.
We got it at a garage sale, because we’re always on the hunt for bargain camping gear. As far as a baby camping chair goes, this one was essential.
Occasionally, it was a little tricky to get him out of it because his legs got caught on the fabric leg holes, but it wasn’t that tricky to do after a little practice. To be fair, at that age he’d get his legs caught in the wide openings of shopping carts too, because that’s what kids do.
There is also a 3 point harness to buckle your child in for more safety. The frame has a safety lock and collapses down to fit in the storage bag. Once it’s folded up, it packs down to the size of an adult camping chair making it so convenient to pack. It literally is the best camping high chair.
Pros: Folds down compactly for portability, easy to wash off, sturdy tray, carry bag.
Cons: Reviews state the fabric leg holes are too small, some people opted not to use them. We didn’t have this issue.
Seat height: 23″ (58.4 cm)
Weight limit: 37 lbs (16.8 kg)
Chair weight: 5 lbs (2.3kg)
Hook-on Highchair with Tray
This travel booster seat/highchair hooks onto a variety of tables to keep your baby or toddler close while eating.
You can use it with or without the tray attachment. Underneath the chair is an attached carry bag.
This chair will hook onto any sturdy table with a thickness between 0.8″ and 3.3″ (20-85 mm). The seat fabric is easy to wipe off and you can remove the seat cushion for easier cleaning.
Pros: Hooks onto the picnic table, tray with cup holder, 5 point harness, carrying case.
Cons: Folds flat but isn’t as packable as other chairs.
Seat height: Hooks onto table
Weight limit: 37 lbs (16.8 kg)
Chair weight: 4.1 lbs (1.8 kg)
Camping Chairs for 2 People
Sometimes you need a camping chair for two or more people. If you’re breast feeding, bottle feeding, or your kids just like to snuggle, you’ll need more than a basic adult chair. Here are a few awesome options that work well for more than one person.
Coleman Quattro Lax Double Quad Chair
This chair easily holds 2 adults, 1 adult and 1-2 kids or 2-3 kids.
Enough room to snuggle close, or let your little one stretch their legs during a feeding. It has a cupholder on both sides, a phone holder and a side pocket. Width between arm rests is 42″ (106 cm).
Pros: Room for family snuggles, phone holder, 2 cup holders, side pocket.
Cons: It’s heavy, but that’s to be expected for a chair this size.
Seat height: 17.3″ (44 cm)
Weight limit: 450 lbs (204 kg)
Chair weight: 15 lbs (7.1kg)
Alpha Moon Padded Camping Chair
This padded chair is perfect for an adult and child to snuggle.
I’ve lounged in one and they’re so comfortable! Breast feeding or bottle feeding in this chair will be much more comfortable. I wish I had this chair when I was breastfeeding my son, it would have been an awesome addition to our camping gear.
It’s also perfect for snuggling with your child next to a campfire. Grab a blanket and you’ll be all set!
Pros: Nicely padded, wide seat, neck rest, cupholder. Packs down into a carrying bag.
Cons: Heavy, but it’s worth it.
Seat height: 15″ (38 cm)
Weight limit: 300 lbs (136 kg)
Chair weight: 13.9 lbs (5.8 kg)
Do you really need a kid’s camping chair?
Yes. You absolutely need the proper sized child camping chairs for your kids.
They’re not going to be happy sitting on the ground, and adult camp chairs are much too big and are a tipping hazard for little ones.
Most campsites have a picnic table, but they’re never the right height for children, and they’re not usually close enough to enjoy the campfire.
The right sized foldable toddler camping chair for your little one will be a great asset to any camping trip. After your kid grows out of it, you shouldn’t have any problems reselling it at a garage sale for a few bucks.

Happy Camping!
I’m Molly Foss, aka Momma Critter. I’ve been camping since I was 9 years old and I always wanted to be Robin Hood and live in the forest when I grew up. I’m excited to share my love of camping with my son as he grows up. My favorite thing to do while camping is roast marshmallows over the fire.
